Katrina Dietz's Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day PledgePage
Every 13 minutes, breast cancer will claim another life. What would you do to help find a cure?
I have decided to participate in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. It’s called AVON’s Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. On May 3rd, 4th and 5th, I will be walking 60 miles from the Inner Harbor of Baltimore to the Washington Monument. As a participant, I will be living in a mobile tent city along with over 3,000 other remarkable men and women (many of whom are breast cancer survivors). I’ve agreed to raise $1,900 in pledges in the fight against breast cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death for all women and the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55. As many of you know, I choose not to drive, so I already walk a minimum of 25 miles a week just going to work and running errands. I will be walking an additional 25-30 miles per week to train for this event. In order to participate, not only must I raise the $1,900 minimum to participate, I also have to travel to and from Washington, DC. Therefore, this is my vacation this year. Can you think of a better way to get away from it all than to spend 3 days traveling the open road? sleeping under the stars? trading stories with new friends? helping your fellow man persevere? I know this sounds like a “ whole lotta walkin’ ”, as one friend put it, but I want to help this cause. I want to help save lives. If my training and participating in this event will reduce, or eventually eliminate the possibility of suffering from breast cancer – all the work will be worth it. The event hopes to raise millions of dollars for awareness and early detection of breast cancer. Last year it raised over 6 million. The net proceeds from the event will benefit Avon’s Breast Cancer Awareness Crusade, a non-profit initiative of Avon Products, Inc., that supports breast health programs nationwide and cutting-edge medical research on women’s diseases at leading academic institutions. Your contribution, together with contributions from myself and others can make a serious impact. Would you consider offering your support? No amount is too small. I will be updating this page often for any of you who are interested in following my training, and later to share with all of you how the event turns out. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer. |
